Installing a new copy

The software is packed into an executable file of about 3.6 Mbytes, and there is a link at the bottom of the previous page that will take you to a download request form. When the downloaded file is executed, it unpacks and installs the software. Please note that the software is made available under certain terms and conditions, which you can examine here, and which are also included among the downloaded files. By installing the software you signify understanding and acceptance of these terms.

In more detail, the download operation transfers a file called EPASCAL.EXE to your machine. By default, it will be placed in your TEMP directory (for example C:\WINDOWS\TEMP), but there is an option to specify another destination, and you may wish to give it a location of its own. It is a "Self-extracting" executable file that when run unpacks the individual files making up the package, and enters the Setup (installation) program. The installation process is straightforward, and there is Help to guide you if needed. Once installed, the "Workbench" program provides a convenient and versatile environment for editing, preparing, and running programs; there is a Tutorial to introduce you to its basic facilities. During installation, a serial number for your copy is allocated and displayed.

The version of Extended Pascal you have downloaded is known as 3.2.07, and is a "demonstration" version containing some restrictions. Following installation, you can contact Prospero and request registration of your copy. You can do this using the message form you will find under "Contact" in the home page; in your message you must quote the serial number described above. You will be sent a key which when applied will remove the restrictions.

The software includes on-line documents and manuals in machine-readable form. The Tutorial takes you through the steps of preparing and running a variety of supplied example programs using the Workbench, and then using the editing functions to modify them, or to enter and process new source texts.
