The software is packed into an executable file
of about 3.6 Mbytes, and there is a link at the bottom
of the Summary page that will take you to the download request.
When the downloaded program is executed, it unpacks the files
and enters the installation program (Setup.Exe). Specifically,
the download operation transfers a file called EPASCAL.EXE;
by default it will be in placed in your TEMP directory (for example
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP), but another destination can be specified. It is
a "Self-extracting" executable file that when run unpacks the
individual files making up the package and enters the Setup program.
At this point there is an opportunity to specify options before continuing.
The Setup program checks whether there is an existing installation, or that a new installation is required. If there is an existing installation, continuing the Setup process causes the current files to be updated and the validity of the installation to be extended to three years where necessary.
When a new installation is required, the software is stored in
a conventional directory, and Setup provides an opportunity for you
to specify a normal working directory (by default set to C:\PEP32)
for source files and your own programs. This is a starting point,
and any directory can be used when you have become familiar with
the operation of the software. Continuing the Setup process causes
all files to be loaded and entries to be made in the Windows
registry, including an initial serial number for your copy.
Please note that by installing, you are deemed to have accepted the
straightforward Terms that you
can examine here, and which are also included in machine-readable
form among the downloaded files.
Once installation is complete, the "Workbench" program EPBench provides a convenient and versatile environment for editing, preparing, and running programs; it includes a Tutorial to introduce you to its facilities. You can activate the workbench from Start and Run by entering "EPBench", which will find the program automatically.
The software as newly installed will allow the
preparation and execution of any conventional Extended Pascal
programs that employ the standard input and output channels
and other file operations. The use of API calls and generation
of Windows applications are inhibited until the software has been
registered, as described in
Windows applications.
